MESSAGE & MEDIA – COMMUNICATIONS TRAINING FOR THE LOCAL CHURCH: Church communications is driven by the belief that people are important to God. In its broadest sense, church communications is the sum total of everything we do, say, or show. Churches are communicating, whether they mean to or not. Intentionally communicating is the cornerstone of an effective communications ministry. Brought down to one goal, church communications works with all the other ministries of the church to reach out and bring people into a relationship with each other and Jesus. Lisa Michiels has organized a conference-wide training event on August 20-21 at The Orchard in Tupelo, MS. Are you involved with or have interest in Outreach Ministry or Worship? Then you should plan to attend this training. For more information go to www.mississipp-umc.org and click on “Message & Media”.
25TH ANNIVERSARY: We are in the process of planning a 25th Anniversary Celebration of Heritage UMC. Anyone interested in being on the planning committee, please contact Jamie Sanders at 326-6503.
STUDENT AND FACULTY BLESSING: School time is here again! We want to celebrate and bless the beginning of another school year. Students, preschool through adults, bring your backpacks to worship services on Sunday, August 8, 2010. The services will lift up students of all ages and faculty, dedicating them to God’s glory as we begin a new school year. Teachers, aides, principals, administrators, secretaries, cooks, librarians, janitors, and bus drivers . . . come to church and be blessed, affirmed in your vocation, and encouraged as you serve children and families in your daily work! Everyone is encouraged to bring school supplies to church and place them at the altar. Please join us for this Celebration Sunday!
JD AND USM-GULF COAST WESLEY FOUNDATION: If you are affiliated in any way with either the JD or USM-Gulf Coast campus or would like to know more about college ministry on our campuses or in your church, you are invited to a one hour meeting on August 3rd at Long Beach First UMC at 6:30 p.m. Each church that is represented at this meeting will receive a very informative booklet, including information on how to help your present or future high school graduates obtain United Methodist scholarships. You’ll also find out how the students and I, Janis Slade, can be of service to your church.
FOOD PANTRY: Next Sunday is the first Sunday of the month so please don’t forget to bring your donations. The need is great and the food pantry is funded through donations only. Items that are needed MOST are: Rice, dried beans, oatmeal, grits, cereal, canned meats, macaroni & cheese, peanut butter, and jelly. During the month of July we have handed out 75 bags of food through the pantry. Your donations are greatly appreciated!
ATTENTION PARENT(S) OF ANY RISING 7TH GRADERS: Please leave the youth’s name, address, and a contact number or email for YOU with Linda in the church office or with Ms. Nancy at 424-0043.
HAPPENING #61: Please pray for the youth on staff (Tyler Sanders & Brittni Damrill) and those attending Happening #61 (Amy Lerch, Belinda Reed, Deanna Cossey, Phillip Burkes, & Jesse Napier). The Happening is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. During the three days the teachings of Christ are discussed in an atmosphere of joy and happiness, with many singing sessions and informal gatherings. No one goes through the Happening and returns the same. Closing ceremonies will be held on Sunday, August 1 at First United Methodist Church in Gulfport at 2:30 p.m. All are invited to attend.
CONGRATULATIONS: To Danielle (Dee Dee) Peebles and Deanna Cossey for being elected as At-Large Members to the CCYM (Conference Council on Youth Ministry). They will serve during the 2010/2011 year. Tyler Sanders is the CCYM 1st Vice President and the DCYM President, Parker Butler is the Budget Committee Chair, and Jacklyn Smith is the DCYM YSF Rep. Please take a moment to congratulate these youth on their accomplishments and service to our conference youth.
