HERITAGE “U”:  Scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 23rd at 9 a.m. (Please note time change).  February is Vision Awareness Month.  Spokesperson Jane Seymour, along with Prevent Blindness America, the nation’s oldest volunteer eye health and safety organization support “Don’t Lose Sight” – a movement to educate adults ages 40-69 about their risk for macular degeneration.  Dr. Christopher Hogan of Hogan’s Eye Clinic will present on this topic.  Make your plans now to attend.

JANUARY HERITAGE “U” ATTENDEES:  Mark Romine from the Senior Planning Group returns for your requested PART II on Thursday, Feb. 25th at 2 p.m.  He will provide detailed information on Reverse Mortgages, IRAs, Protecting your Principal & Interest Earned, Social Security Taxes, Healthcare Planning, etc.

FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING:  The Finance Committee will be meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 23rd at 6:30 p.m.  Members are:  Wil Cantrell, David Cumbest, Rick Murden, Virgil Yeager, Linda Richmond, Sam Napier, Judy Thomas, Lena Loeding, Angel & Ron Barnes, Bob Ellis, Mark Hepler, Richelle Weiland, Nancy Gentry, Tyler Sanders, Sara Lerch, and Nicole Smith.

Vote for a Heritage Sweetheart:  The UMW Morning Glories Circle will be hosting the Sweetheart Pot Luck Dinner TONIGHT at 6 p.m.  Please join us for an evening full of fun and surprises and vote for your favorite Heritage Sweetheart.  See you there!

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED:  There is a need for one adult to lead Children’s Church each Sunday during the 11 a.m. Worship Service.  Materials are provided.  The youth do the first Sunday of each month.  That leaves 40 Sundays… if 40 people each take one Sunday, everyone would only have to do it one time each year!!  Children’s Church gives our preschool through 3rd grade children an opportunity to worship at their level of understanding AND it allows their parents an opportunity to worship as well.  Please contact Rhonda Hepler to volunteer (424-8704).

SEASHORE DISTRICT SPRING LAY SPEAKING SCHOOL will be held on Friday, Feb. 26th from 5-9 p.m. and continuing on Saturday, Feb. 27th from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Seashore United Methodist Assembly. For more information please contact Sheila Gillies at 392-1688.

RELAY FOR LIFE:  The youth are participating in the Ocean Springs “Relay For Life” on April 30th.  They are selling Southern Belle Shirts.  The shirts are dark purple with the saying “Remembering by candlelight loved ones we’ve lost and those that still fight.  Southern Belles…celebrate the night as we Relay For Life”.  To place your order, contact any youth, Ms. Nancy, Cindy & Brian Sims, or Jamie Sanders.

COMPUTER LAB:  Reminder to those who ‘pledged’ an amount toward the purchase of computers for the new HUMC computer lab…please turn in your pledge as soon as possible.  If you will be writing a check, make it payable to Heritage UMC and put ‘computer lab’ on the ‘for’ line.

ATTENTION EVERYONE!  NEW PROCESS FOR CHURCH PURCHASES: Please complete the coding form for ALL church expenditures, including member reimbursements and vendor purchases, etc.  The Treasurer needs written authorization to disperse funds and which accounts to charge for the expenditure.  The PURCHASE INVOICE CODING FORM, found in the church office, provides for both and will speed up reimbursements.  BEFORE committing to an expenditure, please check the fund balances posted in the Church Office.   Linda, the Church Secretary will gladly assist you with filling out the form.  Thank you for your support.  -  Virgil Yeager, Treasurer.

SOUPER BOWL OF CARING:  Thank you for your generosity!  Heritage raised $304.94 and 141 food items.  Every dollar donated goes to Haiti Relief and every food item donated goes to the Food Pantry.  $6,322,993 generated in 2010 from 6,245 groups nationwide.

HAPPENING #60 will be held Feb. 19-21 at Galloway UMC in Jackson, MS.  This is a once in a lifetime experience for youth grades 10-12 (and sometimes adults).  We are very excited that Corey Sims, Brittni Damrill, Lindsay Dunaway, and Ms. Nancy are serving on staff.  The Happening experience is a powerful instrument of renewal in the church.  Its aim is to concentrate closely on the person and teachings of Jesus Christ.  The Happening hopes to give those that attend the desire to understand and serve the church.  It also provides a means to continue the Christian formation which is just begun in the three day program.  Please keep the retreat and all those participating in your prayers.

JUNIOR HIGH SPIRITUAL LIFE RETREAT:  Please keep those youth and adults attending in your prayers for safe travels and a spirit filled weekend.

ATTENTION ALL PARENTS AND YOUTH:  The 8th Annual Poplar Head UMYF Spring Retreat is scheduled for Mar 19-21.  Cost is $50.  Youth can use stock funds if they have approved number of shares and 18 service projects completed.  Registration forms must be completed and turned in no later than February 28th (that’s next Sunday).  If you have questions, contact Ms. Nancy at 424-0043.

JUNIOR HIGH SUMMER MISSION TRIP:  The Junior High youth are attending Youth In Missions (YIM) at Lake Junaluska on July 4-8, 2010.  Registration must be done now so we can be assured a reservation.  Cost for the week is $350 and includes lodging, all meals at Lake J, transportation, & rafting.  Commitment forms have been distributed to all Junior High Youth including details for using stock funds and are due to Ms. Nancy on Feb 28th (that’s next Sunday).    If you have any questions contact Ms. Nancy at 424-0043.

ATTENTION STOCKHOLDERS – SAVE THE DATE:  Annual Stockholder Appreciation Dinner is scheduled for Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 6 p.m.
